This week; I celebrate food. We've explored a lot of recipes this week together as a family. I love the creativity and hospitality that can result when food is being prepared and shared. It just slows everything down. It brings people into my kitchen, which I love.
The photos are from the links to the website. My food photography skills aren't good yet, I'll keep trying. :)
3 recipes I made this week:
Verdict: Epic. Fail. I stirred frequently. But the potatoes didn't get done. And there was a weird vinegar smell/taste/ohmystartswhatwentwrong? We still celebrate this because it was funny, and I couldn't even make my kids eat it, because it went so wrong. For us, this has become the "remember when mom made that?" story. But I think it has potential, so you should try it if you are good at risottos.
Verdict: A Keeper! They took a long time. But we had someone sitting at our counter who we are getting to know as a friend and had great conversation while I put these together. And my dad is an Organic Farmer, so getting to use farm to table meat makes me feel good about serving it to people.
Verdict: A Keeper! It makes so much! The boys liked it. I liked it. Great as leftovers. As leftovers for lunch, I ate it with some cottage cheese on the side and 1/2 an avocado. It seems to freeze well too. And my Li'l One doesn't always appreciate a lot of meat at dinner, so this gives us some proteins without the meat. He gobbled it right up!
I hope you have much to celebrate too! Enjoy your week!
Joy!

Love how a family cooks together stays together. What fun traditions. I only wish it would rub off on me. Constantly trying to find new recipes and then cook them. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteIt's time to confess, I have many cookbooks/binders of recipes. I love to look through them. I go in cooking spurts, but I do love to cook. Now, who is going to clean up? :)
DeleteThe best thing to me is that you all tried something new together. The meatball sandwiches look great & I love quinoa in lots of things, so glad that went well too. I like risotto too. Maybe it was that the potatoes weren't done, because sweet potatoes are yummy! Fun to hear all about this week's food!
ReplyDeleteWe do like being in the kitchen together. Our "new friend" seemed to like the sandwiches, and my husband heated one up today for lunch. That's always a good sign when he goes back for more. :)
DeleteLoved reading a food celebration! I've started making risotto fairly regularly. Our favorite is butternut squash. Whatever veg I put in, I roast beforehand, then stir into the risotto just before serving. I think pretty much all vegetables taste better roasted anyway. I need to try those tacos. One of my kids also doesn't always like meat and it's good to have some vegetarian options for him--and he does love tacos!
ReplyDeleteRoasting! Yes! The sweet potatoes were crunchy and weird, and something was very vinegary. (It was so bad...) I'll keep this idea in my notebook about roasting. Thanks for the suggestion! I made an apple-squash soup 2 weeks ago--we liked that!
DeleteI am very impressed with your cooking adventurous spirit! Love anything with quinoa
