SOL15: A Sunday Brain Dump.

Two Writing Teachers host Slice of Life on their blog.  Join us and link up too!

Leigh Anne wrote a list of leftover wonderings on her blog this morning.
I've been spinning my wheels a bit, trying to decide what to write.  Even all my calendars aren't helping.  :)

So...I'm clearing out my brain.  Thanks for the inspiration Leigh Anne!  Here we go:

1.  We are home from church with the stomach flu this morning.  My 6 year old is so intuitive about  this after his food allergy journey.  When he says that he doesn't feel well, you should listen because he's usually right.  The early morning was rough.  But my 10:30, we are on the mend-ish?  Kids are weird when it comes to the flu.  I can't imagine bouncing back that quickly after what I helped with this morning.  It did result in a morning of snuggles and breakfast in Mom and Dad's bedroom.

2.  Last night I finished Little Bee.  Have you read this book?  I had to read a cookbook last night after finishing it, just to have a let down if you will.  It really rattled me.  I can't even really review it, just go check it out if you are intrigued.  I have a stack from my trip to the library yesterday.  I'll be tackling that today, while we hang out in the living room.

3.  I had a great conversation about staying fresh and current in the classroom yesterday.  It has me inspired to overhaul my classroom for next year.  Like all of us, I think with new ideas from the state, interventions, etc.  I need to balance being compliant and helpful as a staff member with what I know is right for kids.  It left me feeling excited about next year.  Time clean out, rearrange, restructure.  (For next year.)

4.  We have a 23 year old living with us right now.  I will say this publicly to anyone who has helped me along in my life journey, "Thank you."  I forgot how much I didn't know at this age.  The first week was hard, but we are settling in.  I'm so introverted, I under estimated how hard this would be on my groove.  My husband helped me so much when he said, "It's like we have another son to help raise."  Indeed.  Bless you all Mamas of teenage boys and boys who are in their 20s.  First of all, the food.  Secondly, they are grown ups, but not.  However, my sons are loving every moment with him.  We know that hospitality doesn't mean cookies and tea at 4 all the time, we are blessed to have the resources to serve a family that we love at this time.  In the end, it's going to be awesome.

5.  Spring is coming to Iowa.  Friends on the East Coast, I will wish you 50s and Sunny until you get it for a week straight.

6.  Time to read a few blogs and dive into my book stack.  Have a Joyful Sunday!

What's on your mind this Sunday?

Joy!
Kendra

  1. Having someone move into your home when that someone really is an adult is challenging. We have an extra person living w/ us, too, but it's so personal and a difficult story to share publicly, so I haven't written about it. There's also the other person's privacy I need to consider.

    1. Oh yes, each story is so different. I think I'm the only difficult part in our story. There is joy and family all around. But I haven't put it All out there, because not all of it is mine to share. Best of luck to you in your journey.

  2. Glad be of some inspiration today! Dumping sometimes is necessary - including the kind of dumping you had at your house. I had to laugh when you mentioned food and teenage boys. You can say that again. Sometimes I think there is no end. Enjoy your time with him. Seeing kids at the brink of adulthood is interesting.

  3. I love that your post today is a conglomeration of thoughts. That is how we spend so much of our time as teachers. Always seems there are many many things to be considering all at the same time. I'm intrigued by the book you mentioned of course. I'll check it out.

  4. I love doing list posts sometimes. I never thought of them as "brain dumps" but I guess that is what they are! I took a 16-year-old into my family nearly three years ago. It has been a mixed bag, but mostly so positive. He is now one of my children, and I'm (usually) thankful for his presence! Very enjoyable post.

  6. I love the way you wrote this, Kendra, like having a nice conversation! I am so swamped I'm taking longer than ever to read books. I have Little Bee, will get to it some time! Now you've really made me want to read it. It's wonderful that you've taken in this new member of your family. I imagine it can't be easy, but glad that things have smoothed out a bit. I've had both my son & family, then my daughter & family move in with me from time to time, mostly waiting for a house or doing something big to their houses. Although it is different, still lifestyle changes are changes. Best to you!

  7. I love the idea of a "brain dump" post. So many thoughts all the time, what a great way to reflect on your current thoughts. Little Bee has been on my list to read and I just haven't gotten to it yet. I've heard so many recommendations for it though- I need to get started!

  9. Great idea - a brain dump post. So true about being 23...we knew so little then, and required so much patience.
